Hero Film for a Historic Moment in the UK Space Sector

To celebrate the first launch of a satellite from UK soil, we produced this film for the Satellite Applications Catapult.

We were contacted by the Satellite Applications Catapult to produce a film marking the historic launch of the first first satellite from UK soil.

The film would feature a series of interviews with key players involved in the launch with footage from Goonhilly Earth Station, the launch platform, and the control room.

We wanted the film to have a science-fiction feel, especially for the interviews.

Our initial thought was to have the interviewees in a black void with small single point lights in the background to simulate stars in space. However we decided to proceed with dynamic and dramatic tube-lights positioned in an array behind the speakers, with each person having their own unique colour.

This provided a distinct look for the interviews, contrasting it to the handheld interview shoot for the other scenes.

We’ve been working with Story Ninety-Four on our podcast for two years, but this is the first time we used them for video. They took a very simple concept – talking heads and b-roll – and created a truly standout piece of content that had the perfect atmosphere for our narrative. Their creativity and innovation are next level, creating a final product that we couldn’t have conceived by ourselves.
